Fake bodies trigger police call

Yellowknife (Oct 13/06) - The victim of an early Halloween prank called police last week to report a gruesome scene.

It involved fake blood and clothes stuffed to look like bodies, said Yellowknife RCMP Const. Roxanne Dreilich.

When the prank's perpetrators revealed the hoax, the victim made a second call to police, just as RCMP arrived on the scene.

"The public are urged to have all the fun they like, but we remind them that our resources are limited," said Dreilich.

Teen still missing

A 15-year-old girl reported missing last week has yet to return home, but police say there is no concern of foul play.

Though the girl has failed to check in with her foster parents, Const. Roxanne Dreilich said she has been sighted alive and well around town.

Three bikes go home

Owners claimed three of about 90 stolen bikes at last Saturday's bike viewing.

Const. Roxanne Dreilich said the RCMP lacked an exact count of the stolen bikes they received, as many people drop off bikes at the station's pile without filing a report.

"We do need a better tracking system," said Dreilich.

RCMP turned the unclaimed bikes over to the Rotary Club for their next auction.

Health authority break-in

The Jan Stirling Centre on Franklin Avenue was broken into last week. Two laptop computers and a docking station were stolen from the Yellowknife Health and Social Services Authority.
