Iqaluit (Sep 18/06) -The Nunavut Floor Masters (NFM) made waves in the nation's capital in the past few weeks.

The hip hop crew performed at Cypher North, an annual event held each year by the Canadian Floor Masters (CFM) in Ottawa.

"It was crazy. The energy was amazing," said Nunavut Floor Masters leader Jonathan Cruz.

He said the event included a battle, where hip hop dancers compete against each other. Due to a mix up, he and CFM member Lost Child ended up competing against fellow NFMers Mary Mitsima ("Lil X") and Stephanie Arnold ("Phresh Steps") in the first round.

"They brought some heat for sure," he said of his competitors. Cruz's team ended up advancing, but were eliminated in the semi-finals.

Cruz said he doesn't know what's next for the NFM, but said a new website, and a tryout for the Winter Games in Whitehorse might be on the way.

"If funding permits, we're trying to get a show together, so we can start touring performing wherever."
