Arctic Red River (Aug 21/06) - It's being billed as good old-fashioned family fun on the shores of the Mackenzie and Arctic Red rivers.
The annual Canoe Days festival is coming to Tsiigehtchic Aug. 25 to 27, This year marks the event's 15th anniversary. Jason Shiwak, recreation coordinator for the hamlet, said there will be many activities.
"We're going to have a three-on-three beach volleyball tournament," he said.
Also featured will be an old-time dance, a pancake breakfast, a jigging contest and the festival's famous canoe races, which will be held on the Arctic Red and Mackenzie rivers.
"Of course, that depends on the wind and weather," Shiwak said. In addition, the festival will feature traditional music and food.
Shiwak said local musicians will perhaps be joined by musicians from Fort Good Hope.
"The festival is built around the canoe races, but it's much more," Shiwak said.He added anyone interested in registering should contact the hamlet.
