Yellowknife (Aug 16/06) - One of the men charged with aggravated assault in connection with a stabbing last month stormed out of court Aug. 12.

Twenty-three-year-old Jeffrey Morris was unhappy with one of the bail conditions set out shortly after his late-July arrest.

Because his new job as delivery driver, the Alberta man asked territorial Judge Bernadette Schmaltz that a night time curfew be dropped from his conditions of release.

Morris argued his new job should take precedence over curfew.

"I didn't have a job then," said Morris. His new job often keeps him working after 12 a.m., Morris told the court.

Morris began to argue with Schmaltz when the request was denied. "I don't know why this court isn't trying to help a guy keep a job."

Schmaltz told Morris he could file documents to appeal his conditions, but now was not the time. "This court is not going to do your work for you," she said.

Morris walked out, muttering, "F--king kangaroo court."

The second man charged with the same offence is still looking for a lawyer.

Twenty-year-old Delroy Morgan is applying for a counsel through legal aid.

Morgan as been in custody since July 24.

One of the victims in the July 21 attack was stabbed multiple times. Another man had cuts to his face following the altercation, which happened outside a 50th Street bar.

Both suspects will be back in court this month.
