Inuvik (Aug 11/06) - Greg Wilson can often be seen under a snowmachine, or working on a boat as part of his job at the Northmart.

Wilson, who now works as the retail manager at the department store, originally came to Inuvik in 1994.

Wilson came into the Territories through Fort Franklin, where he worked for a year.

He was living in London, Ont. when he landed an interview for a job in the North.

"I had to look in the library to find out where I was going," explained Wilson, while attaching a battery to a boat engine on Friday afternoon.

After a year in Fort Franklin, he spent nine months in Fort Smith before moving to Aklavik in 1992.

"I always enjoyed the North, and the nice people here. It quickly became my home and I made some great friends," said Wilson.

"I originally only planned to be here for a few years to make some money, but it all grew on me," he said.

It was during his stay in Inuvik that he met his wife, and started his family.

Wilson plans on travelling back home to Ontario to spend some time with his parents, who he hasn't seen in many years.

It was earlier this year that Wilson was offered a new job in Aklavik with Northmart.

"I accepted a position as store manager, which will be nice," said Wilson.

Assembling motors is a big part of Wilson's job, the type just depends on the season.

"I put a lot of skidoos together for communities like Sachs, and others in the area," he said.
