Yellowknife (Aug 02/06) - Yellowknife police have received one call so far reporting a suspected drug dealer from Alberta may be hiding-out in the city.

The call came Monday afternoon. Sgt. Darcy Fleury could not confirm the place or time the man was seen.

The man, identified as Michael William McDougall, 23, is wanted in Fort McMurray, Alberta on five counts of trafficking cocaine, one count of possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and one count of carrying a concealed weapon.

"They want him back, so we're doing our best to help," said Const. Colleen Werrell.

Police have reason to believe McDougall is in Yellowknife because of at least two properties that were rented in his name.

Yellowknife RCMP believe McDougall may be part of a group of young men who came to Yellowknife in twos and threes.

Fleury said they have reason to believe the visits to Yellowknife may have begun as early as last fall.

The RCMP is investigating the reasons these men are coming to town, he said.

Fleury said the man was "stopped on one occasion" on a routine street check a few days ago before the Yellowknife RCMP knew who he was.

Police are not sure how many times the man was in Yellowknife.

McDougall is described as a Caucasian male who is five-foot, 11-inches-tall and weighs about 165lbs.

He has blue eyes and brown hair.

Police said he has several recognizable tattoos on his body.

They include asian symbols on the back of his right hand, a blue devil face on his right inner arm, an orange tiger on his right bicep, a blue asian dragon tattoo on his right outer forearm and the word "CRUE" in black calligraphy letters across his shoulders on his back.

"There's no direct threat to the community," said Werrell.

Police are asking anyone who sees him in the area to contact police or call Crime Stoppers.
