Iqaluit (July 17/06) -Iqaluit RCMP arrested two people over the July 7-9 weekend.
On the evening of July 7, police executed a search warrant at a man's house and found 36.6 grams of cocaine, 4.8 grams of crack and cash believed to be associated with the sale of drugs.
The accused was already scheduled to appear in court in September on other trafficking and drug possession charges.
On Sunday, an individual under the age of 18 was charged when police seized 65 grams of marijuana and a "large amount" of cash during a traffic stop on a vehicle.
The police are crediting community members for helping alert them to the suspects.
Young vandals
There's been a rash of vandalism in Kugluktuk this summer, especially broken windows.
Several buildings have been targeted, the hamlet office three times. A "core group" of youth under age 12 who roam the streets at night are to blame, according to RCMP Cpl. Denise Keatley.
The police have obtained some names of likely culprits and are trying to round them up, she said.
The community's bylaw officer is making night patrols, she added.
Because charges cannot be laid against anyone under age 12, it's hoped that community members will volunteer to supervise the youth as they undertake projects to work off the damage they have caused, Keatley said.
What a burn
Iqaluit RCMP are on the lookout for a culprit who caused burn marks on a new unit managed by the Nunavut Housing Corporation.
The damage, reported on July 7, was inflicted on building 4102 on the Road to Nowhere. Anyone with information is asked to contact the RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
