Yellowknife (July 12/06) - Production at Tyhee's Yellowknife Gold Project could begin as early as 2008.
The company's property, located 90 km north of Yellowknife, contains one million ounces of gold grading at 3.8 grams per tonne, according to the company.
"Our goal is still full production, hopefully by sometime in 2008," said Tyhee executive vice-president Roger Sylvestre. New results from drill holes at Bruce Lake, which is located 650 metres north of the main Ormsby Zone, are also indicating positive signs for the company.
Bruce Lake drilling results show a 12.06 grams per tonne gold grade in hole NDM305 and a 4.68 grams per tonne in hole NDM308, according to the company.
"Drilling is still being done to extend the size of the Ormsby Zone," said Sylvestre. There are two drills on the property and 20-25 workers, said Sylvestre.
The idea of having an open pit mine as opposed to an underground mine is still being debated, said Dave Nickerson, Tyhee board of directors member and professional engineer and geologist.
"It's still not confirmed fully which way we're going," he said.
While the type of mine is still unknown, Sylvestre expects a number of job opportunities once the Yellowknife Gold Project becomes fully operational.
"Once we get in full force, we'll have a working force of about 150 people," said Sylvestre.
Tyhee has plans to train a number of Northern workers. The company will not only offer training for mine related work, said Sylvestre, but other occupations as well.
"We'll have a training program. It's not just for miners. There are other types of work in the mine. There are secretaries, cooks, plumbers," he said.
The location of the property also bodes well for the company, said Sylvestre.
"It's a 20 minute flight from Yellowknife and we have a 3,000 foot landing strip."
Tyhee also didn't encounter any problems during last year's winter road season, said Sylvestre.
"We had no problems whatsoever," he said.
