Owner fears puppy dognapped

Yellowknife (July 12/06) - A black Husky pup has disappeared without a trace, and the family fears it was kidnapped.

Tracy Carter said Inukshuk went missing after a happy outing past the Folk on the Rocks stage near Long Lake.

She says they were turning back to come home, and she'd just told him to run back to the car.

"He usually runs back and hides under the car and waits for me. He likes getting back first," Carter says.

"It was only about five or eight minutes from the time he ran off down the path towards the truck 'til I realized he was missing."

Her other dog, which was with her at the time, searched with her, but was unable to pick up the scent of the dog beyond where she had last seen him up the path.

Carter says that they have searched the area, checked the pound several times to no avail - and have even put up posters around the town.

There is no evidence that he was attacked or caught in the underbrush, she says, because he would have made very loud noises that she would have heard.

This is why, she says, the only possibility left is that the he was "dognapped."

"I did receive a phone call last Friday from a friend," Carter says.

"She said that she had seen a little black Husky dog in a red harness that matched Inukshuk's description running around the Canadian Tire parking lot."

Inukshuk was wearing a red harness with a special leather strap that they had to have specially made for him because he has special needs. When they got him as a pup he was severely handicapped in his back legs and couldn't walk.

When he was little they made him a little rolling cart so that he could get around and helped him through therapy while he learned to walk.

"My house isn't the same without him," Carter says.

"He should be with his family who can take care of him."
