Bevington, coming to a community near you

Yellowknife (July 10/06) - Interested in what’s happening in Ottawa these days? Or maybe there’s a pressing issue you think needs to be addressed at the federal level. No matter, Western Arctic MP Dennis Bevington is touring the Northwest Territories this season and he wants to hear from you.

“I’m going to try and get to as many communities as I can over the course of the summer,” he told News/North during a stop in Fort Good Hope this week. “Certainly it will acquaint me with the issues affecting people here and in turn I can inform people about what I’ve been doing in Parliament.”

Top of the heap for Bevington includes voting in the new gun legislation that will end the Liberal gun registry. As well, housing issues and seniors’ pensions.

“The way the Canada Pension Plan is structured is difficult for Northern seniors, especially with the high cost of living here,” he said. “If a senior does a little bit of work to supplement their pension, they find it’s clawed back and I’m going to look at ways we can address it in parliament.”
