Yellowknife (Jun 30/06) - Police released the names of two people involved in a drug seizure that could be worth more than $300,000.

Adrian Bilodeau, 37, and Faye Grandjambe, 21 were charged with possessing 3,886 grams of cocaine last month after police searched a home on Trails End, just off 43rd St. in Yellowknife.

At a conservative price of $100 per gram, the amount seized by police has a street value of $388,600.

Residents have complained about activities on their street for months.

Over the past year, Yellowknifer has received anonymous e-mails complaining about drug dealing happening in the area.

Last summer, someone posted signs around Trails End stating residents knew about the drug problem in the neighbourhood and they were monitoring suspicious activities.

Yellowknife RCMP would not comment on the value of the find but called it "a large amount."

Yellowknife Mayor Gord Van Tighem said the amount of cocaine was surprising but Trails End is known to the community.

"They never cease to surprise," said Van Tighem, adding, "The area has been of interest for quite a period of time."

The seizure happened after police responded to a call about two males fighting at a residence on Trails End.

The incident occurred at about 2 a.m. on May 2.

Three people were found on premises, two hiding inside the home and one outside.

All three were arrested. The third person was Merle Derbyshire, 39, who was arrested for being unlawfully at large.

Police returned with a search warrant after smelling marijuana coming from the residence.

A police dog was involved in searching the home.

Grandjambe also had an outstanding warrant for arrest. Bilodeau and Grandjambe are both known to police, said Const. Colleen Werrell.

Twenty-two grams of marijuana, a significant amount of cash and a police scanner were found with the cocaine.

Both were also charged with possession of cannabis.

Police stated earlier that this was not the first time they had been to the residence.
