Yellowknife (Jun 21/06) - A weapons charge, two sexual assaults under investigation and a break and enter were some of the results of 237 calls Yellowknife RCMP responded to last week.

A scuffle outside the Gold Range Saturday evening ended with a possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose charge against a 23-year-old male. The male was taken into custody. Police say they confiscated a knife from the suspect.

In a separate incident still under investigation, police responded to a spousal assault at a hotel after receiving a call that a woman had been hit in the face with a bottle of vodka. The victim was treated by paramedics at the scene.

Three sexual assaults were also reported and two are under investigation. In the third incident, the victim refused to provide a statement, according to police.

There were also 91 "drunk in public" related charges doled including 42 for disturbing the peace, 27 for mischief and 22 violations of the Liquor Act.

As well, police followed up on four reports of impaired driving and three charges were laid. One case remains unsolved as police were unable to locate the vehicle and driver in question.

A 55-year-old Nunavut resident was apprehended at Extra Foods after trying to make off with a cooked chicken, baloney and a litre of fruit juice, police say.
