Yes to dam expansion

Iqaluit (Jun 19/06) - Iqaluit city council approved a $2.4 million plan to extend Lake Geraldine Dam.

It is feared that the city's watershed may not provide enough water to accommodate the projected population growth over the next 20 years, making expansion of the reservoir imperative, council said.

The city had already budgeted $1.89 million for the project through its capital construction budget.

It will make up for the shortfall by transferring $550,000 from the new treated water storage tank project. Kudlik Construction Ltd. was awarded the contract.
