Dawn Collins is looking for financial support for a new non-profit organization called Fun Fur Pets.

“The purpose is to give pets the right stimulation so that they will be good pets when they get adopted,” said Collins.

“Pets need affection and exercise. It will make them a better house pet.”

Collins said if they just wait for adoption through the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), without the things they need most, their personality and physical health will decline.

Right now, dogs and cats are left in the care of Great Slave Animal Hospital.

“I will begin operations once I receive 75 per cent of the operation costs in sponsorships,” said Collins.

The sponsors will cover the costs of Collins’ wage, transportation and animal treats. A six-month pilot project will make sure there is a need and interest for the service.

Collins said the workers in the animal hospital love the animals, but they don’t always have time to work extensively with them - and she feels she is the woman for the job.
