Inuvik (Jun 16/06) - Now that Carol Norwegian has walked 125 km from her home in Tsiigehtchic to Inuvik, she plans on doing it again in five years.

"It was really nice to see all the support from people around here," said Norwegian.

She had planned the trip earlier this year with her mother, who accompanied her on the fundraiser.

The walk was planned to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society.

The trek was dedicated to her father, who died from prostate cancer five years ago.

Norwegian said she hopes her walk will inspire more action in the fight against cancer.

"A lot of men don't like to talk about prostate cancer. Hopefully this will help change that," said Norwegian.

The walk took Norwegian five days to complete, with 25 km being covered each day.

She said the first two days were nice and windy, which kept her crew cool under the hot sun.

Norwegian said she raised $1,400 in Yellowknife before the walk.

A stop-over in Inuvik before the walk earned her cause $1,000 more.

"The biggest surprise was during the walk," said Norwegian.

People driving by stopped to donate, and that added up to $782.

"They would stop and talk, to congratulate me. It was all very encouraging," said Norwegian.
