Inuvik man found dead near cabin

Inuvik (Jun 12/06) - The body of an Inuvik man was found near his cabin in the Mackenzie delta, 10 days after he was reprted missing.

Albert Jerome, 58, was reported missing on May 29.The Inuvik RCMP detachment organized a search for Jerome on June 6.

Volunteer firefighters assisted with a ground search through dense bush. The Department of Fisheries and Oceans also helped with a marine search of the creeks and lakes near his cabin.

At approximately 5:30 p.m. on June 7, Jerome's body was discovered near the cabin.

No cause of death had been identified by press time, but Inuvik RCMP staff sgt. Sid Gray said it was under investigation. He said there are no suspicions of anything foul, but it is procedure in situations like this.

"The autopsy is just a base we have to cover, we'll have more information after the autopsy," said Gray.
