Coppermine (May 29/06) - Staff members from JMS Supplies Limited will be in Edmonton this week, but it won't be to watch the Oilers.

The Kugluktuk-based company will be in the Alberta capital to purchase and pack supplies for the next two months, said director of operations Manfred Eder.

JMS Supplies is an expediting and retail outlet company that has been open for the last four years.

The company bids on a variety of government tenders and distributes the supplies to Nunavut communities by sealift or by air charter.

"We'll bid on every kind of commodity group. Whatever anybody needs," he said.

Eder and assistant manager Willis Jourdey will be in Edmonton for two months. From there, supplies will be trucked to Hay River and then shipped by sealift to communities throughout Nunavut.

"We ship items ranging from all-terrain vehicles to medical supplies," said Jourdey.

In the company's second year of operations, business increased by 600 per cent, topped by a 300 per cent increase last year, said Eder.

"We're expecting another phenomenal year," he said.

As business has expanded throughout Nunavut, the company has expanded its shipping routes.

"We sealift into Baffin out of Montreal to service communities like Clyde River and Pangnirtung," said Eder.
