Coppermine (May 29/06) - Two Kugluktuk men are dead after a snowmobiling mishap Thursday.

RCMP aren't releasing the names of the victims but Const. Kristen DeWulf said one man was in his early 20s and the other in his early 30s.

"The majority of the community is taking it pretty hard," she said.

The two men were last seen travelling along the ice in front of the community on one snowmobile around 1:30 Thursday morning.

Local search and rescue found the men's snowmobile Friday morning , but called off the search for bodies because of treacherous ice and water conditions.

DeWulf said the search will resume when the ice clears.
