Nunavut MP speaks out

Northern News Services

Rankin Inlet (May 24/06) - Nunavut MP Nancy Karetak-Lindell of Arviat has expressed her disappointment in federal Indian Affairs and Northern Development Minister Jim Prentice for being a no-show at a scheduled sitting of the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs.

Prentice also failed to inform committee members that he would not be attending.

"It is unfortunate that the minister would treat the Aboriginal Affairs Committee in such a manner, as if the issues we deal with are of no importance to him," she said.

"This attitude does not give me great hope for future dealings between the minister and the committee."
