Yellowknife (May 12/06) - Working with young children is something Kimberly Male has been doing for many years.

The 20-year-old college student works for the Town of Inuvik, which offers a day camp program to children during the summer months.

She started with the position last year and came back to it after her school year ended.

"It was my first year at Grant MacEwan (College)," said Male, where she is working towards a diploma in early childhood development.

After she earns that, she plans on getting her bachelor of education for teaching elementary school.

Her interest in working with youth was initially sparked when she was still in high school.

Her mother operated a preschool in town, so Male was always around young children.

Babysitting was one of her interests that helped form her passion for educating.

Male is busy these days sending out cards to the kids who attended camps last summer.

"We hope to get even more kids in the program this year," said Male.

Once the cards have been mailed out, Male plans to distribute posters all around town to advertise the dates of the camps.
