Murder trial continues

Rankin Inlet (Apr 03/06) - The second degree murder trial of Adrian Shimout VanEindhoven, 32, continues in Rankin Inlet this week.

The trial began on March 27, with the court hearing testimony from medical and ambulance personnel, police and forensic experts during the first week.

VanEindhoven is charged with the April 23, 2004, death of his girlfriend, Leanne Irkootee, 22, who died of a stab wound to the heart.

The Rankin detachment of the RCMP were aided in investigating the death by an investigation team from Iqaluit's Major Crimes Unit, V Division, and forensic-identification specialists from Iqaluit and Edmonton.

The trial was expected to last two weeks.
