Yellowknife (Apr 12/06) - Yellowknife RCMP are asking the public for help in locating a woman who has been missing since last week.
Police had also issued a call for help to find a second woman, but she was located safe and sound on Tuesday afternoon.
Still missing, however, is Joelle Powder, 21, last reported at her Yellowknife home on Thursday, April 6.
She is described as aboriginal, 5'5" tall and 150 lbs with long dark hair and reddish highlights.
Powder also has brown eyes, a mole above her lip and a tattoo on her right arm of a small red devil.
She was last seen wearing black corduroy pants, a beige shirt and a black fleece sweater.
Police were unable to provide a photograph of Powder by Yellowknifer's deadline.
The second woman was reported missing on Sunday. She is 18 years old.
Sgt. Darcy Fleury said she was located late Tuesday afternoon.
Details of where she was found were not available.
Const. Colleen Werrell said RCMP are unaware of any history of disappearances by Powder.
Werrell said foul play is not suspected.
"We're operating on the belief that (she is) visiting friends or has gone somewhere and hasn't called family," Werrell said.
Heidi-Ann Wild, victim services program co-ordinator with Yellowknife Victim Services, said confidentiality practices do not allow her to speak about any people reported missing to her office, however, staff will offer support to families during such an incident.
"If a person is missing, generally what we do is sit with the families and provide support to them if the RCMP go searching for the missing person," Wild said.
"We can provide support to families who are very traumatized."
