Yellowknife (Apr 12/06) - A head-on collision between a Honda Civic and a Dodge Ram pickup truck on Vee Lake Road Saturday sent two people to hospital.

Yellowknife Fire Department spokesperson Lieut. Mike Lowing said the accident occurred as one vehicle was travelling out to see the Northern Lights just before 9 p.m.

"They used the Jaws of Life to open the passenger door of the Honda to remove one passenger," Lowing said.

Another passenger in the same vehicle was transported to Stanton Territorial Hospital.

The pair were treated and later released. There were no injuries to the driver or three passengers in the Dodge Ram.

Lowing said he attributes the use of seatbelts and a car seat to the prevention of injuries to two of the young child occupants in the truck.

Yellowknife RCMP Sgt. Darcy Fleury said the Honda appeared to have slid across the road into the path of the oncoming vehicle.

"We don't anticipate any charges being laid," Fleury said.
