Yellowknife (Mar 08/06) - Adam Dental Clinic is fed up after receiving dozens of calls from an organization called Child Find Canada.

"In one week our office received six calls from Child Find Canada, even though we had repeatedly told them not to call," said clinic administrator Krista Sansom.

"Overall, it was about a couple dozen calls."

Child Find Canada is a not-for-profit organization active in most provinces and the Yukon. It sponsors publications to raise awareness of missing children and hosts fingerprinting clinics to make identifying children easier.

Sansom said her office was so fed up with calls from Child Find representatives seeking advertisers for its publications that she called the RCMP to file a complaint.

Sgt. Mike Payne said the RCMP have not received many calls about problems with Child Find reps calling other businesses.

Fred Erickson, Child Find president, said the problem stemmed from the fact that there are many different dentists working out of the clinic with different phone numbers.

"I had three or four representatives tell me about a woman asking us to stop calling her business and so we flagged the problem. She will not be called again," he said.

Erickson says Child Find calls more than 26 million businesses in Canada every year.

Sansom said she was treated very rudely on the phone by Child Find employees. After she asked them not to call again, she was asked: "Don't you care about missing children?"

She said representatives of the organization called her "the crazy lady," and some of the calls were quite aggressive.

Erickson said he understands why she interpreted his comments as rude, but she should have immediately asked to speak to a manager to make a complaint.
