Inuvik (Mar 03/06) - All it took was a simple request and a couple of scotches to sweeten the deal and the Legion had themselves a signed pendant from RCMP Commissioner Giuliano Zaccardelli.

That's according to vice-president of Alberta and NWT Legion command Fred Church. "We had a fairly significant discussion over it," said Church.

"I told (Zaccardelli) that the pendant would look very nice on the wall and eventually convinced him it should be donated to the branch because we work very closely with the local detachment."

Zaccardelli visited Inuvik last August on a special tour of the North.

Wherever the RCMP Commissioner is visiting, the limited edition ensign is flown during his stay.

"They don't give them away too freely," added Church, who promised the commissioner that the Legion would honour the gift by properly framing it.

"And it cost us about four scotches."

Church and McInnes branch president Dick White say they work very closely with the Inuvik RCMP, offering the club facilities for special events, military exercises and operations meetings during search and rescues.

Inuvik Sgt. Al McCambridge was supposed to be at the presentation Friday, but was called away last-minute to assist with an armed standoff in Iglulik.
