Yellowknife (Mar 22/06) - Warmer weather can only mean one thing for Yellowknife fashionistas - spring fashion has arrived! And like the fresh breeze only spring can bring to frozen streets, fresh new fashion trends are available in stores all across the city.

"Little crocheted tops and tanks that show the midriff are in this year," said Chez Patricia manager Judy Pilgrim.

"Colours like lime green, bright orange, corals and hot pinks complement chocolate brown - another trendy colour this season. Brighter is better, in my opinion."

Pilgrim said this is the time that sales start to pick up again. The store usually starts getting spring clothing in February and March.

For men, Mark's Work Wearhouse employee Teresa Campbell said it's all about stripes and smaller patterns in menswear.

Shorts, tank tops and flip-flops are also in.

"Just in time for Caribou Carnival," said Campbell.

For women, matching bags, belts and shoes are a new trend for the store. Women can mix and match in any colour combination they want.

Shopping for spring

Campbell said people tend to shop for spring clothing now, even though they won't wear the items for another month.

Bonita Letemplier from Reitman's said the trend in her store involves what she calls Tissue T-shirts.

"Tissue Tees are thin material and have a longer length. They look great layered underneath casual or denim jackets."

Another item that is very popular in spring are Gaucho pants.

"These are pants that flare out the entire length of the leg."

Letemplier said the hot colour combination this season are pinks and teals, combined with neutral browns and khaki.

But like many in fashion, Reitman's is already getting ready for summer, as the shipment will arrive on April 23. Maybe Yellowknife will get so lucky and welcome summer weather a little early too!
