Yellowknife (Mar 22/06) - Among 11 assaults reported during the week, two men now face charges.

After a March 15 domestic assault, a 23-year-old male was charged. The victim received treatment for minor injuries at Stanton Territorial Hospital and was later released.

The other assault, which occurred March 17, was reported after a fight occurred between two individuals.

One 30-year-old male was charged and will appear in territorial court at a later date.

Yellowknife RCMP reported 65 alcohol-related incidents over the last week, an increase from the previous week.

"There may have been a connection to spring break," Const. Roxanne Drielich said.

With the upcoming Caribou Carnival this weekend, Yellowknife RCMP anticipate there will be an increase in the number of people around town. "As much as possible we will be patrolling over the weekend and foot patrols are certainly something on the agenda for the event as well," said Drielich.

Five businesses were targeted during a rash of break-ins last week.

Four of those businesses were located on the third floor of the Panda II mall and were broken into between March 15-20.

Drielich said various items were reported missing, including office equipment, laptop computers and small amounts of money.

RCMP are continuing their investigation to determine which items are missing from the break-ins. Several cupboards were damaged during the break-in.

The fifth break-in occurred at Aurora Geosciences on Racine Road, overnight on March 19.

Police said office equipment such as laptop computers and communications equipment were stolen.

No value has yet been placed on the items and no charges have been laid in connection with the break-ins.

Yellowknife RCMP say that one snowmobile has been reported missing over the past week.
