Woman charged in stabbing

Iqaluit (Mar 13/06) - For the second time in about a month, a person has been stabbed during the middle of the day.

At around 3 p.m. on March 8, Iqaluit RCMP officers responded to a stabbing at building 305C.

A 33-year-old man was taken to Baffin Regional Hospital. He was admitted overnight and treated for a stab wound in his left forearm.

Simatta Ningeok Kootoo, 42, has been charged with aggravated assault. She has been released from custody with conditions. She will next appear in front of the Nunavut Court of Justice on June 5.

Police say the victim and the accused knew each other, but the incident was not "domestic related."

On the afternoon of Feb. 7, a cabbie was stabbed more than five times while he waited in front of Northmart.
