Memory loss

Yellowknife (Mar 10/06) - A "magical" visit to Rae-Edzo and Yellowknife by a group of 14 North Vancouver high school students was punctuated by an unfortunate loss last weekend.

Parental chaperon Will Gordon lost his digital camera somewhere between Ryan's Restaurant in the Panda Mall and the Discovery Inn on March 4.

The memory card contained about 400 photos of the students' trip.

Students from Grades 9 through 11 from Sutherland high school in Vancouver's north end joined students from Chief Jimmy Bruneau school in Rae-Edzo.

The group learned how to set snares, ice fish and live on the land over four days at Camp Xaeli on Marion Lake. They caught muskrat, rabbit and whitefish, slept in tents and ate caribou.

The students also participated in a tea dance and a feeding the fire ceremony, as well as the school's anniversary celebration.

"The students were excited and they have lots of stories to tell from the experience," Gordon said. "It was a magical experience."

The missing camera is a silver, palm-sized Hewlett Packard with 5.0 megapixel resolution.

There is a $50 reward for the return of the camera. The return of just the memory card would also be appreciated.
