Yellowknife (Feb 24/06) - The second annual Aurora Festival continues celebrating the Northern Lights this weekend with lots of cool jazz.

Inuvik's Razzamajazz flew to Yellowknife today to play several gigs around town.

"This is going to be an exciting trip for us," said saxophonist Bob Mumford.

Vocalists and percussionists Miki O'Kane and Carrie Young trade singing parts alongside Mumford, pianist Christina Wilsdon and guitarist Mike Whiteside.

The five-piece combo will perform at 9 p.m. at the Top Knight tonight with special guests Rick Poltaruk and Northern Skies, followed by an appearance at the Bushed Music Festival at Sam's Monkey Tree Pub on Sunday.

On Saturday, the band will play at the Aurora World Visitor's Centre at Prelude Lake at 10 p.m.

Razzamajazz released their debut album, The Sauna Sessions, late last year. The disc features 14 Razzamajazz interpretations of jazz standards and two original compositions.

Recorded and mixed by Norm Glowach of Spiritwalker Productions, the CD includes acoustic bass from Yellowknife's Pat Braden.

The band prepared Japanese labels for their CDs to sell at Aurora World that read: "Gentle music born under Northern Lights."
