The brand new disc features 20 tracks by 17 sub-Arctic artists, including selections from the Gumboots, Leela Gilday and Neema.

Local favourites and current hits include Steve Lacey's Yellowknife Evening, Diga's award-winning track Earth is Crying, and previously unreleased tracks by Pat Braden, Jason Madsen and No Label.

While the CD is distributed exclusively in Yellowknife, Aaron "Godson" Hernandez of Ice Vibe Recordz said he will make it available around the Territories soon.

The hip hop DJ and rapper, whose work also appears on the CD, is seeking more artists to include on volume two of the compilation, which is scheduled for release this summer.

One of the North's most prolific recording artists, Hernandez completed Arctic Reign, the third installment of a three-disc trilogy, in 2005.

He has also released albums with Liquid Eyez and Unonymus Inc. Both bands have songs on Welcome to Yellowknife.
