Sammurtok, now continuing her studies at the Nunavut Sivuniksavut program in Ottawa, returned to Chester with a collection of old photographs.

Her assignment was to have as many people identified in the photos as possible.

Staff members at the school helped Sammurtok arrange a special evening to examine the photos.

A total of nine elders attended the event.

Teacher Glen Brocklebank said five members of the school's student council volunteered their time to take notes at the event.

"It was an incredible experience and awesome to watch," said Brocklebank.

"The elders saw pictures of their parents and other relatives.

"The event lasted about two hours and was really exciting to be a part of."
