Yellowknife (Feb 17/06) - Two people were involved in a head-on collision on Thursday morning on Niven Drive.

The accident on the crest of Niven Drive as it enters the Niven lake subdivision at about 10:30 a.m., involved a silver Dodge pickup truck and a white City Cab sedan.

The entire front end of the cab was crushed. The truck was crumpled on the driver-side front.

The cause of the accident was not known at the time, said Darcy Hernblad of the Yellowknife fire department, who was on the scene.

"We do not know the cause of the collision yet, and there is no extent of their injuries at this time," said Hernblad.

The injured people were not taken immediately to the hospital indicating the injuries might not have been life threatening.

The impact took its toll on the front end of both the cab and the truck, and deployed airbags in both vehicles.

A hazardous materials disposal truck was on scene, but no comment was made about any liquids that may have leaked. Bystanders said the road is known for speeding vehicles, and a sign should be put up in light of this accident.
