Colourful thanks

Yellowknife (Feb 15/06) - The Legion invites Yellowknife residents to take a moment to recognize veterans in the NWT this month.

Valentine's for Vets is an opportunity to send a colourful "thanks" to a Northern veteran.

The Legion asks families to bring in colourful cards or decorated notes that can be sent out to veterans in the North. The cards and letters can be dropped off at the Legion this month.

Valentines for Vets began in 1989 when the late newspaper columnist, Ann Landers, encouraged her readers to create special valentines for veterans in care facilities throughout Canada and the United States.

Last year, the Valentines for Vets campaign reached more than 4,000 Veterans in Canada.

There are fewer than a dozen Second World War veterans in the NWT.
