Stranded sledders safe and sound

Yellowknife (Feb 15/06) - Two snowmobilers who became stranded in the wilderness outside Yellowknife after their machines broke down were located Monday.

Const. Colleen Werrell of the Yellowknife RCMP said the two snowmobilers were reported missing at 9:30 Sunday evening.

The pair were en route to the Stag Lake region.

An Air Tindi Cessna was deployed Monday morning with two spotters on board.

"At 1:15 p.m. today (Monday), they were located in good condition about 30 miles outside Yellowknife," Werrell said.

She attributed the well-being of the snowmobilers to their wilderness preparedness.

"Both were skilled in survival techniques and had the necessary gear.

"It is also important to note that the subjects stayed with their machines," Werrell said.
