Yellowknife (Feb 10/06) - Three youths have been charged with assault with a weapon after several students at a city elementary school were shot with BB guns.

Yellowknife RCMP Const. Colleen Werrell said an investigation was started after a report Jan. 30 that students from Ecole St. Joseph elementary school had been shot at by youth with a pellet gun.

Several students were hit with the pellets and reported minor bruising, but none was seriously injured.

A second incident was reported on Feb. 1 near Beck Court.

According to police, the suspects in the shooting were not students from St. Joseph school.

Werrell said one of the weapons involved was a Stinger P30 6mm soft pellet gun.

The youth will appear in Yellowknife youth court.
