Yellowknife (Jan 25/06) - The Caribou Carnival has appointed a new board of directors and is now looking to hire the carnival and site co-ordinators.

"It's a good start and I'm encouraged," said board secretary Karen Tomasta after the first meeting.

Most of the organizations involved last year will again be a part of the event, she said.

"We know we're going to pull it together," said new vice-president Randy Patrick.

Five of the 10 major events, like the snowmobile and dog races, have co-ordinators lined up, he said.

The board is advertising for the carnival co-ordinator and a site co-ordinator, both paid positions. The cut off date is Jan. 24 for applicants.

The other position on the board is president, Canadian Forces Capt. Don Finnamore.

The treasurer's seat is vacant.

Gisele Forget was the acting vice-president for the board and has since stepped down.

"I'm more comfortable with the responsibility as a regular board member," she said.

The board will hold its first events meeting shortly. Other pre-carnival events like the bush gear and carnival capers are in the works, but no dates have been released.
