Sanikiluaq (Jan 23/06) - For the first time in months, cheques have arrived on time in Sanikiluaq.

People in the hamlet have been experiencing delays in receiving their government assistance, but two recent passing grades show that Canada Post may have solved the problem.

GST rebates arrived in the community a week after their Jan. 5 issue date. Child tax credit cheques were in the post office and ready for delivery on Jan. 20, which is the issue date for the child tax credit cheques, meaning that residents of Sanikiluaq will be able to cash them on the first possible day.

In November and December, the child tax credit cheques were weeks late, leaving many families broke before Christmas.

Canada Post promised a solution by changing the routing of mail through Kujuuaq instead of Montreal.
