Celidh tales from Japan

Yellowknife (Jan 20/06) - The musicians who make up Celidh Friends will share travel stories, songs and souvenirs tonight from last summer's World Expo in Aichi, Japan.

Dawn Lacey, Steve Lacey, Moira Cameron and Steve Goff played traditional and modern folk music at the site's global commons in late June and early July.

At 7:30 p.m. today, the band will give a multi-media presentation on their trip at Northern United Place that includes slides, video, displays, poetry, anecdotes and a musical performance.

"We worked out new arrangements and cemented some songs we'd wanted to learn for years," Cameron said.

The band played hour-long sets, sometimes twice a day, for two weeks. Along the way, the friends gave interviews on Japanese television, played with other musicians from around the world and were humbled by the respect extended by their Japanese fans, they said.

After Expo, the band mates travelled in Kyoto and Hiroshima, collecting stories and photos as they went.
