43 mischief complaints in two weeks

Yellowknife (Jan 18/06) - From Jan. 2 to 16, Yellowknife RCMP responded to 460 calls to service.

Police were called twice to deal with sexual assaults and 11 times for common assaults.

They dealt with six calls for thefts under $5,000 and six calls for theft of motor vehicles.

There were 43 reports of mischief and 79 for disturbing the peace. The majority of these calls, which deal with people being drunk in public, were located in downtown Yellowknife.

Police reported 20 calls of missing persons, most of which were from the Frame Lake area.

There were six cases dealing with drugs, five of which were for marijuana possession and the other for possession for the purpose of trafficking marijuana.

Since the beginning of the year, 144 prisoners have been held in Yellowknife cells.
