Rae-Edzo (Jan 16/06) - The daily bus between Rae-Edzo and Yellowknife has a new name, new look and new owner, but the man behind the wheel remains the same.

For the past 11 years David Wilson has guided the Friendship Express along the ever-improving road and as of Nov. 18, he does so as the owner of the re-branded Northern Exposure line.

The familiar burgundy painted exterior has changed to black and silver with bright yellow lettering, and the interior has been refurbished, but Wilson's commitment to his regular customers remains the same.

"Community service is still the number one priority," said the long-time resident of Rae-Edzo. "That's how it started and that will continue.

"The community is very supportive. I wouldn't be in business without them."

Wilson plans to run two Northern Exposure buses, one for the scheduled route and one for chartered trips.

Passengers on both 47-seat buses can now enjoy flat-screen TVs and DVD players and re-upholstered seats.

"It's got to look good," he said.

In addition to passengers, Wilson delivers parcels between the two Northern centres.

On the new charter service, Wilson already has bookings. He is looking to transport sports teams and other groups to various locations, including Hay River and Alberta cities like Peace River and Grande Prairie.

A weekend trip would cost $4,600, he said.

"I work closely with Alberta West out of Edmonton so in case of break-down passengers are never left stranded," he said.

Wilson also has a list of spare drivers in Rae when needed.

"I try to use as many local people as possible," he said.
