Yellowknife (Dec 09/05) - It's cold. It's dark. This is the perennial season to gather together for warmth and good cheer, and members of the Yellowknife Choral Society are doing their part.

The singers are practising for their holiday production at the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre. Titled 4,000 years of Christmas, the show offers a collage of cultural performances to express the diverse influences that shape our winter celebrations.

Narrator Trudy Samuel will lace together the spoken word, dance and song presentations with some winter readings.

Belly dancers choreographed by Anne Lanteigne will move their bodies in an ode to the night; storyteller Roberta Kennedy will share a Haida chant to bring back the light; and 10 children will present a 25-minute production of A Charlie Brown Christmas.

Clarinetist Jo Russell and pianist Amy Hendricks will accompany the Choral Society throughout the evening. The Sir John Franklin High School Choir will join the line-up on Wednesday night.

The production runs next Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
