Iqaluit (Nov 07/05) - Nunavummiut will be taking a moment to remember Canadian veterans at ceremonies throughout the territory.

In Iqaluit, The Royal Canadian Legion takes the lead, with a service at the cadet hall on Nov. 11.

Services begin at 11 a.m., but people can arrive as early as 10:30. A wreath laying will be the highlight, and a bagpiper will lead the Legion representative into the building.

With Nov. 11 being a holiday, schools will mark the occasion a day early. On Nov. 10, students will be reminded about the cost of war.

Nuiyak school in Sanikiluaq is holding an assembly at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. Parents are invited to join their children in the gym.

There will be a reading of "In Flanders Fields" in both English and Inuktitut, and students will watch a short film.

Peter Pitseolak school in Cape Dorset has a similar day planned. Students will be reciting "In Flanders Fields" and will place poppies on a cross.
