Yellowknife (Nov 28/05) - After more than a month of competition, Bobbi Bouvier took first place in the third annual North of 60 Idol competition at the Legion.

Bouvier, who is originally from Hay River but now calls Yellowknife home, sang with four other contestants in the finals on Nov. 19.

Yellowknife's Brenda Lowen won second place. The competition opened last month with more than a dozen singers.

The three judges, hip hop recording artist Aaron "Godson" Hernandez, radio personality Jim Stratford and Legion member Perry Campbell, gushed with praise after Bouvier's winning performance of Me and Bobbie McGee.

"Flawless. Perfect. Awesome," said Stratford and Campbell.

Hernandez asked Bouvier why she hasn't been discovered, yet.

Bouvier won a trip for two to Las Vegas donated by First Air, an NWT diamond presented by Yellowknife Mayor Gord Van Tighem and a long list of other prizes.

Bouvier doesn't have much time to rest. She's completing a Christmas CD recorded during the last month with Glenn Butt and Bill Chipman.

The disc, titled Christmas North of 60, features traditional Christmas tunes, some holiday music from Newfoundland and an original song written by Chipman.

The release party is scheduled for the evening of Dec. 1 at the Yellowknife Legion.
