Iqaluit woman charged

Iqaluit (Nov 14/05) - An Iqaluit woman is in custody facing charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault, sexual assault and sexual interference against a minor.

According to court records, the attempted murder was carried out with a knife.

The sexual interference charge involves a male under 14 years of age. The other charges involve two Iqaluit women.

All the offenses took place on Nov. 4.

Loretta Kanatsiak, 34, appeared before the Nunavut Court of Justice on Nov. 8 on those charges. She is in remand waiting for her next appearance, Dec. 6.

A publication ban prohibits naming the under-age witness/complainant.
