Inuvik (Oct 28/05) - The Montreal Guitar Trio will present a cross-cultural evening of guitar music at Sir Alexander MacKenzie school in Inuvik on Nov. 2.
The trio is made up of Sebastien Dufour, Marc Morin and Glenn Levesque, three graduates of the University of Montreal who have performed together across Europe and North America since 1998.
Their music is a one-of-a-kind blend of styles from around the world, including music from Japan, India, Spain, Italy, Bolivia and traditional reels from Quebec.
On the afternoon before their public performance in Inuvik, the trio will present a show for students at the school.
"We make our school shows a little bit more interactive," Dufour said.
"Half of the show is improvisation. We bring a few of (the students) on stage, making a little African jambe contest. We get the rest of the audience to participate, as well."
Humour is an important part of the trio's act, he said.
"We make a few jokes, not only by talking, but visual jokes, as well," he said. "There's a lot of interaction between us and the audience."
The trio then leaves Inuvik for Yellowknife, where they will do shows Nov. 4 and 5 at the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre.
