Yellowknife (Oct 21/05) - Classical guitarist Lyndon Duong released his first CD with a recital at William McDonald school on Sunday afternoon.

Serenade features Duong's recordings of composers from around the world.

He is donating proceeds from the $20 disc to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Almost 200 friends, neighbours, dignitaries, musicians and music lovers cut through a blustering snowstorm to attend the event.

"One of the greatest things about growing up in Yellowknife is the great sense of community we have here," Duong said from the stage before picking up his guitar.

"It feels wonderful to look over the crowd and see the generous support of so many people."

Filmographers from Western Arctic Moving Pictures documented the performance, which followed speeches by Lyndon's father, Bac-Ai Duong, fellow musician and emcee Stephen Smith and Louise Elder-Riordan of the Canadian Cancer Society.

Serenade is available at CD Plus in the Centre Square Mall.
