Suspects sought in vandalism

Yellowknife (Oct 14/05) - Several residents of the Frame Lake area awoke last weekend to find their vehicles damaged during an overnight mini-crime spree.

Yellowknife RCMP received reports two vehicles were vandalized on Calder Crescent and Williams Avenue overnight Friday.

Windows were smashed and the vehicles were scratched.

Overnight Saturday, another vehicle was damaged on Williams Avenue when rocks were thrown through a window. Two or three young girls were seen in the areas throwing rocks at houses, RCMP said.

"The girls were seen in the area. It doesn't mean they had anything to do with it, but it is the closest thing we have to suspects right now," said Const. Damon Werrell.

Werrell said such vandalism is uncommon.

"I don't think it has happened since I've been here and I've been here over a year," Werrell said.

"It's kids with nothing to do. It was a warmer night and they were out on the streets and I guess they felt like breaking windows."

The RCMP also reminded motorists to lock their vehicles and report any such damage to the detachment.
