Fort Providence (Oct 14/05) - When wearing their school's new logo on their chests, students Griffin Matto and Roland Nadli will have a reason to be especially proud.

Their entries in the Deh Gah school logo competition were combined to create the school's new crest.

Matto sketched the graceful eagle in flight, its talons outstretched. The lettering from Nadli's submission was deemed the best.

The Fort Providence district education authority had the unenviable task of choosing a winner.

There were more than 30 entries, many of which also endorsed an eagles theme. The birds commonly nest around Fort Providence.

Some of the other ideas were the Deh Gah Bisons, Stars, Bears, Drums, Bumblebeez and even Fishlegs, according to teacher Christopher Carson, who conceived of the logo competition.

He said he felt compelled to launch the contest after ordering jerseys for Super Soccer earlier this year and realizing that the school lacked an official team name.

At the next Super Soccer tournament there will be chants of "Fly Eagles fly!" Carson predicted.

Matto received a free hoodie for his winning entry. Nadli was awarded a T-shirt.
