Dump truck vs truck

Yellowknife (Oct 14/05) - Slippery road conditions are the probable cause of the vehicle crash on Highway 3 on Wednesday morning, said RCMP.

At 8:30 a.m. a silver Dodge Dakota pickup truck and a dump truck collided head-on just past Fred Henne Park.

"The road conditions were a big factor," said Sgt. Michael Payne.

Taken to hospital

The female driver of the Dakota and the male driver of the dump truck were both taken to Stanton Territorial Hospital. They have since been released, said Payne.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing. Alcohol and drugs have been ruled out, Payne said.

The crash destroyed the passenger-side corner of the Dakota, crumpling the hood. The back of the vehicle also suffered damage.

The dump truck had damage on the front corner of the driver's side. It came to a rest facing downwards into the ditch on the side of the highway. The crash blocked one lane and slowed traffic as the RCMP directed vehicles. The RCMP and the fire department were at the scene to clean-up the accident.
